5 days traveling was just too much for my fledgling self. It was so great for the first 2 days. I worked out both Thursday and Friday and I pre-thought what I was going to eat. In fact, we even cooked our dinner the second night at a friends house out of the Now Eat This! Diet cookbook- BBQ Pork Chops with Kale and the Apple Cinnamon Cobbler. It was delicious and our friend loved it. So what happened?
I think there were two big contributing factors. Eating out all those days in a row was just too much for me to manage. I also started drinking. All the old habits clicked in and it was just too hard for me to climb out. Old patterns are not old friends. I gained 6 lbs! My body just loves to gain weight! I am not sure how I am going to over come giving in to old habits when traveling. The only thing I can think will help is practicing the new habits so they become more entrenched. Also, limiting the amount of time I am in that kind of environment is key.
I did have some success while I was traveling which makes me think more control is possible. Working out while traveling has always been a struggle for me. It felt great to workout two days in a row this trip. Also, for the first two days I really did stick to a plan and didn't give into whim. That was definitely a first. If I can do two days...I can do more, right?
